A good mix is hard to find; you know your stuff.

Finding the right media for plants to thrive is not easy today. Especially if you are growing a fairly obscure plant family. Epiphyllum won’t tolerate a heavy, iffy drainage potting mix. This is a first try for me, and so far, I’m quite pleased. I grew Epis for years in mid-coastal CA, but it’s a whole different ballgame on the western Slope of CO. I did hedge a bit and added a small amount of your Azalea mix for slight acidification, and your coir fiber, along with some medium Monterey pine bark to keep it open. So far there has been little to no settling, and each pot drains freely, yet holds good moisture for several days even in our mid-90 degree heat. The plants suffered an over-long wait for both pots and media to arrive, but their turn around, given the unfavorable conditions has been remarkable. I’m quite pleased with your work, and I think the Epis will be long term as well.
